The 3rd hole of Amen Corner is long, almost straight but punishingly narrow. The proximity of trees left and right add to the claustrophobia. From the tee, a hefty drive is needed, if an approach to the green is going to be realistic, but a well positioned bunker on the right will catch any drive.
Bunkers guard the entrance to the green as well as the green itself. The putting surface is oval shaped and the pin position can bring your approach enticingly close to the sand. The high Stroke Index makes this a demanding hole for all but the long, straight hitter.
